Faith Activities

OLHC MassOur Lady Immaculate Catholic School enriches the spiritual lives of students by providing a wide variety of faith experiences. Some examples of faith experiences provided include:

 Daily Religion Curriculum
 Roman Catholic theology is taught in all grades
 Lessons & explanations of Sunday Gospel Readings
 Morning & afternoon prayer on announcements, as well as prayer in individual classrooms throughout the day
 Masses & Paraliturgies: All School Mass once a month coupled with an additional monthly Mass/Paraliturgy by section; each grade prepares at least one liturgy per semester
 Quarterly Adoration for 3rd-8th grades
Reconciliation; biannually during Advent and Lent
 Circle of Grace lessons
 Family Life Lessons: K-8th grades
 Buddy program: Pre-K 3 through K students are paired with 6th-8th grade students; the buddies sit together at All School Masses and participate in a Buddy Day lesson once per quarter
 Service Hours: all students in 5th-8th grades are required to complete a minimum of 2 hours of service per quarter
 Diocesan Respect Life Gathering: 5th graders in the Diocese of Lake Charles meet for retreat
 Blessing of the Animals: parents may bring students’ pets the last hour of school to be blessed
 Respect for Life: each grade participates in an age appropriate activity to celebrate life; 3rd-8th graders recite a rosary
 All Saints Mass and Program: 3rd graders dress as saints and share short bios of their chosen saint after Mass
 Advent Services: school assemblies every Monday during Advent
 Jesse Tree: each day, one of Jesus’ ancestors is remembered and an ornament is hung on the tree in the classrooms
 Diocesan Catholic Schools Week Mass: 8th graders from the Diocesan schools celebrate Mass at the Cathedral
 OLI Catholic Schools Week: students participate in a number of activities celebrating Catholic education
National Vocations Week: students partake in classroom activities and listen to a guest speaker
 Standardized Assessments (NCEA IFG ACRE): 5th grade
 Confirmation Assessment: 8th grade prepares for testing in individual church parishes
 Diocesan Retreat: 8th grade
 Stations of the Cross: classes visit the stations for prayer and reflection during Lent
 Seder Meal: 7th & 8th graders gather for a prayerful meal every other year (even numbered years)
 St. Joseph Altar: all grades view this traditional meal every other year (odd numbered years)
 Way of the Cross: 7th grade students dress as characters and perform the Passion play
 May Crowning & Rosary in honor of our Patroness
 National Day of Prayer: school gathers around the flagpole
 Diocesan Vocations Drawing contest
 Catholic Daughters of America Art contest: 4th-8th grades
Religion Committee Meeting: priests, teachers, and parents meet quarterly to implement religious programing
